Hard at work on the album, I noticed that there was a stretch of songs toward the end of the album with unrelentless poppiness and ease of listening. While this might not sound like a bad thing, I felt that these songs needed a break - an 'injection of weirdness' - to wake up the listener's brain, to act as a musical palate cleanser. I found that missing piece in an old demo I had recorded while trying to learn how to use my DAW. The appropriately titled "Are You Ever Be A Nonconformererer" is a strange little ditty with overlapping time signatures and abrupt shifts in synth tones. It is not a song that I anticipate anyone to fall in love with, nor is it marketable as a single. That said, without its inclusion on the album, the album would not work. Playing this first mix of the album for my father and my sister, neither of them mentioned the inclusion of the track - it had washed right over them, with my sister pointing out that the 'album featured no interludes' - which, indeed, was the point. The track is not a 'song' in the sense that one would expect to listen to it by itself, but it is glue which adds cohesion and strength to the songs that surround it.
