Must Love Dogs

Every dog will have his day
At least that’s what some people say
But that’s just three short hours for a boy
But what would you make of a fortunate pup
Who kept his luck when his day was up
And God had granted him enormous joy?
Would you believe that a man may be
Satisfied completely
And need ask nothing more of the world?
I know it’s true because I met you
And before our lips had touched I knew
This fortunate pup only needed one heck of a girl
I’d like to hold your hand
I’d like to take you out
I’d like to be your man
I’d like to make you shout
I’d like to see you smile
I’d like it very much
What I’d like most of all
Is to feel your touch
They told me ignorance was bliss
Simplicity was happiness
The little things are worth the most in life
Well, I’m a fool, and that’s all there is to it
And you’re smaller than me, a great dane to a poodle if
That’s happiness, then what’s the use in strife?
Would you believe that I may be
Satisfied completely
And willing to stay right here for you and wait?
I know you do because I met you
And before our lips had touched, you knew
This fortunate pup needs no other mate.
I’d like to hold your hand
I’d like to take you out
I’d like to be your man
I’d like to make you shout
I’d like to see you smile
I’d like it very much
What I’d like most of all
Is to feel your touch
My love for you is a work of art
You’ve left your territory mark on my heart
I’m yours and you are mine, oh baby, let’s start
Look at me and listen to your heart now
Tell your mom you won’t be back till sundown
Let me hear you laugh, let me hold you when you cry
Let me know that you’re always gonna be mine
Would you believe that a man may be
Satisfied completely
And need ask nothing more of the world?
I know it’s true because I met you
And when our lips first touched I knew
This fortunate pup only needed one heck of a girl
I’d like to hold your hand
I’d like to take you out
I’d like to be your man
I’d like to make you shout
I’d like to see you smile
I’d like it very much
What I’d like most of all
Is to feel your touch

You disappeared from my photograph
I dig your new disappearing act
I wish that you would teach me your tricks
If you could stand to reappear
I won’t bite, girl, have no fear
You teach me, I’ll tell you how I tick tock tick tock tick tock tick tock
It’s been a couple years
So why do I still smell you
You’re hiding in the box beneath my bed
The rusting metal coffee pots
The Tool CD I one time bought
The skin cells that fell off when dry and dead
I’ve finished yet another script
It’s called “The Bored and Nondescript”
I thought that it might illustrate my thoughts
I know you’d never finish it
And so I never finished it
I thought three lines was a good place to stop go stop go stop go stop go
It’s been a couple years
So why do I still hear you
Your voice is ringing outside of my ear
The country pop that fills the waves
Martin Luther freed the slaves
The thought of cooking veggie burgers rare
I can smell you, I can hear you
I can taste you, I can touch you
I can sense your presence
But I can’t see your face
It’s been a couple years
So why do I still taste you
Bacteria that toothpaste can’t get out
Flecks of parsley in my teeth
Say the hungry, feed world peace
Chart the chewing chamber where I shout
I can smell you, I can hear you
I can taste you, I can touch you
I can sense your presence
But I can’t see your face

Kevin Calaway Seattle, Washington
I could while away the hours conferring with the flowers, consulting with the rain - but who has time for that? I regulate my mood with musical catharsis and publish my diary on the internet for the whole world to hear, wearing my heart and my influences on my sleeve like a man who really needs to do laundry. ... more
