While the first verse bemoans love, the second verse and bridge section fully embrace it - the song was written as a response to my bewilderment at the ease to which our relationship came, neither of us having had good experiences in the past.
lyrics
The world is a scary place
And I know it takes some nerve to show your face
After all this time I spent in eyes of others disgraced
That I’d still want to try to find love, I’m amazed
I’ve had my fill of lies and deceit
The sickening way they make you think they’re really very sweet
So why on Earth would I go out again?
From what masochistic pleasure would I receive a better end?
So I locked my heart in titanium chain
To never let it veto the admonitions of my brain
So thoroughly, totally, no-one-can-vote-but-me, locked away
Completely, opaquely, and no-one-can-break-me until I say so
Alone in my mission, with no one else missing, whoop-die-doo
Surrounded by walls to keep out one and all until I met you
Have you ever had a dream so nice
That when you wake up in the morning, you wish you had it twice
Or been in a dirty kitchen where your only friends were mice
And then invited to dine with the queen to break the ice
Have you ever had to laugh at a job?
Turned down from the position, then promoted on the spot?
Have you ever seen a thunderstorm?
And as soon it was over, things were lovely and warm?
You freed my heart from the shackles I built
Now it beats as yours and will go where yours will
So thoroughly, totally, no-one-can-vote-but-me, locked away
You came out of nowhere and evened the score and saved the day
I love you, I need you, I want you, I see you and yes it’s true
Alone in my mission, don’t know what I missed until I met you
(don’t know what I missed until I met you)
Thank you, darling, for opening my eyes
Thank you, darling, for clearing my cloudy skies
Thank you, darling, for all the nice surprises

I could while away the hours conferring with the flowers, consulting with the rain - but who has time for that? I regulate
my mood with musical catharsis and publish my diary on the internet for the whole world to hear, wearing my heart and my influences on my sleeve like a man who really needs to do laundry....more
